Why Choose The Workers' Compensation Trial Group, P.A.?
Workers’ compensation issues are difficult and generally operate much, much differently from standard litigation. You’ve seen the websites and the television ads. Maybe you’ve heard them on the radio. The trend is for law firms to try and be everything to everyone. But there’s an old phrase – “jack of all trades, master of none.” We went in the opposite direction and the name of our firm says it all. Suppose one of your loved ones got diagnosed with cancer. Who would you want treating them – a general practitioner who handles everything from upset stomachs to broken bones? Or would you want a specialist who treats cancer patients and who knows how to help with your specific problem? And if you chose the second answer above (hopefully you did!), why wouldn’t you make the same choice for your workers’ compensation issues?
Board-certification standards set by the florida bar association
Board certification in Florida is an honor that few lawyers have earned. Only 186 attorneys in the state of Florida were board-certified in Florida workers’ compensation in 2018. Why so few? Because the criteria are extremely demanding. To become board-certified in Florida workers’ compensation law, attorneys must meet a number of requirements set by the Florida Bar.
For example, the lawyer must:
- For initial certification, handle the trial or appeal (or substantial equivalent) of at least 25 contested workers’ compensation cases;
- Have at least 45 hours of approved workers’ compensation law certification continuing legal education in the 3 years prior to initial application;
- Undergo extensive peer-reviewed by attorneys and workers’ compensation judges;
- Have substantial involvement in the specialty of workers’ compensation law – 30% or more – in the 3 years prior to application;
- Pass a full day written board-certification examination.
In addition, board certification is only good for five years. After that, re-certification is required and the attorney must continue to meet trial and continuing education requirements for renewal. Brian C. Dowling has been board-certified since 2008.
